Eat (or drink!) your veggies!
(Haha, like the glass?!)
I’m totally loving my new juicing routine, and have even gotten my boyfriend into it! I have the Breville Juice Fountain Plus – a great investment and only $130 if you buy at Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% coupon. It’s easy to use and clean and pretty efficient; I use a big bowl of veggies and fruit for a glass of juice.
My favorite combos so far are:
- spinach, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon, ginger, parsley (sometimes with carrots, sometimes without)
- spinach, carrot, apple, tangerine, kiwi (a sweet treat!)
Juicing is a great way to get your daily servings of fruit and vegetables. Check out the CDC recommendations for your age, gender and activity level (and add a few more servings of vegetables – they truly are miracle foods!). We could all use more, but it’s really hard to eat enough and I love the juice option. And because the fruits and veggies are in liquid form, your body easily absorbs the nutrients.
I juice all organic fruits and vegetables and while I do go through a lot, it’s so worth it! I typically use 2 large handfuls of spinach, half a cucumber, several celery stalks, an apple, a lemon, and a small piece of ginger. You can play around with the ratios to get the taste and color you like.
The manual that comes with the juice fountain says you can juice a whole apple. I wash everything really well, chop the the apple, lemon and cucumber in halves or quarters and in they go.
After juicing the only thing that’s left is a very dry fiber from the fruits and veggies. I want to start composting it. At the recommendation of a friend, I’ve started using small plastic produce bags in the side container to check the remnants and save one step when cleaning.
Fun, easy and delicious. I highly recommend it! The juice place by my office charges $4.50 – $5, so it’s a great way to say money too!

I agree to your above stated lines. Since, I’m a health conscious guy, so I drink Juices 4-5 times a day. Its an important content to strengthening the digestive system and which is must for our body.
Cost?
How much do you spend a week on fruits and veggies for all this juicing? Doesn’t this gete expensive?
Hi Mike! IIt can be expensive, but I shop at Trader Joe’s, which usually has really reasonably priced organic produce. I also buy what I can from Costco – they usually have huge containers of organic spinach. I budget $100 per week on groceries (for two adults) and usually spend about $80, but that includes other grocery items. I’ll check my receipts this weekend and let you know what the juicing ingredients come out to!
