Bender Ball

30 Dec

Has anyone tried the Bender Ball? My boyfriend and are I thinking about getting one, but want to know if it’s worth it. We’ve read mixed reviews online (if we get one I’ll definitely do my own review!) so I’m curious to hear more.  Let me know!

Note: one thing we did hear is that if you call to buy, you have to specify that you don’t want the DVD subscription.  If you don’t, they’ll keep sending you DVDs (and charging you for them!!).

2010 is the year of abs – get ready!

Fly Derrie-Air!

29 Dec

I love this and wish there was really an airline that was ballsy enough to do this!  But maybe I’m just biased because I’m little :)

100 days of yoga: day 14

20 Dec

I’ve been doing pretty well on my 100 days of yoga challenge.  So far I’ve only missed one day, so I’m at 14 days of practice out of 15.  I figure instead of stopping because I technically haven’t practiced everyday, I’ll continue to try and see how long it takes me to do all 100.  For now the best I can do is 100 days of practice in 101 days – that’s the new goal!

The day I wasn’t able to practice was this past Thursday. I planned on going to class after work but got stuck late, came home, ate dinner, and then fell asleep on the couch at 9pm, completely exhausted from the week.  But no excuses!

I’m LOVING the 20 minute yoga podcasts from yogadownload.com; they’re perfect for quick early morning pre-work sessions. I also just got some new audio classes from the wonderful Carolina Vivas, and I’m excited to add those to my repertoire!

I’m feeling great – strong, flexible, focused and less stressed, especially on the days I practice in the morning.  I can’t wait to see how I’ll feel in another 14 days…

Namaste!

ps – no, that’s not me, but a girl can pretend, right?  I’m almost there :)

AromaCar Commuter Kit from Vim Essentials = heaven in my car!

11 Dec

I’m currently obsessed with my AromaCar Commuter Kit from Vim Essentials.  It has two blends of essential oils, an AM and a PM blend, and smells soooo good!  You just put a few drops of the oil onto the felt pad, pop it into your power outlet and voila – heaven!  It comes in a cool sunglass-style carrying case that stores and travels easily.

The AromaCar Commuter Kit makes a great gift idea for anyone who spends a lot of time in their car.  I love using it before and after yoga and work for a calm and relaxing drive (it does wonders for my road rage – seriously!).  Founder of Vim Essentials, Noelle Katai, is a sweetie AND a genius!

breatharian

9 Dec

I’d never heard the term breatharian before my nutrition class tonight, so I thought I’d share with you guys.  The below definition is courtesy of our lovely lecturer, Dr. Laura Thompson, CEO and founder of the Southern California Institute of Clinical Nutrition.

Breatharian:

- Refers to a being who does not eat but draws nourishment directly from the atmosphere in which it is placed

- Can obtain nutrition from the gases that make up air: hydrogen, nitrogen (for protein), carbon dioxide and oxygen

- Some yogis and high spiritual leaders are said to exist on the “air that they breathe.”  They live off their Prana or Chi.

This beautiful piece is artist Robert Pasternak’s “Breatharian.”   Talk about a diet, huh?!

100 days of yoga

8 Dec

I’ve been trying to make my yoga practice a daily habit so I decided to challenge myself to 100 days of yoga.  I always like having a goal to work toward and instead of making excuses about work, life, being tired, (walking the dogs, hanging out with my boyfriend, cleaning – I’m really good at excuses!), etc, I decided to just buckle down and see if I could dedicate at least 20 minutes a day to my practice. I figure by the end of 100 days it will be a natural part of my day, like showering and eating :)   And you better believe it’s just as important!

So that’s the goal: practice at least 20 minutes of yoga everyday for the next 100 days.  I’d love to make it to class everyday, but I know that on some days it’s just not going to happen.  Instead of limiting myself with unreasonable goals, I’ve armed myself with new teachers and classes to explore and yoga podcasts for days when I can’t make it to the studio.  Some of the podcasts are as short as 20 minutes, so even on busy days I can squeeze in some mat time.  (Reviews on the best/worst yoga podcasts to come!)

Today marks day 3 – so far so good!
